If you’re stuck in a junk-food-eating, hardly-exercising rut, creating new habits can be hard. That why it’s important to leverage all the tools that psychologists have come up with, so you can break bad habits and build good ones.
Start with a change that’s super easy
Building new habits is all about sustained effort. What you do one day doesn’t matter nearly as much as creating making a consistent effort over time. Want to build an exercise habit? Go for a walk around the block every day for three weeks, then build from there. Want to start eating healthy? Try eating a healthy meal for dinner every weeknight, and don’t worry too much about the rest.
Figure out what’s holding you back
Are you someone who struggles to consistently stick to a healthy diet? Dive into exactly why that is. Have you struggled to find healthy food that you like the taste of? Do you not know how to cook healthy meals? Figure out exactly what’s holding you back, and work around that. If you haven’t learned to cook healthy meals, we can help you out with fresh, chef-prepared and nutritionally-balanced meals. If you think healthy food is all just salads and celery, tuck into our healthy Indian Butter Chicken or Lamb Shank Ragu.
Set a time limit
Committing to something for the rest of your life sounds hard, but committing to healthy eating for thirty days seems much more achievable. By the end of the first month, you’ll be through that initial adjustment phase and your healthy habit will be much easier to maintain.
Plan for failure
It’s important to realise that you’re human, and starting new habits is hard. Expect a few bumps along the way, but commit to never failing twice in a row. If you can get back on the healthy eating horse the next day, you’ll keep moving towards building a habit.
